Lifetime Achievement

Dr. Dennis Norfleet is the medical director for Oswego County Opportunities, Inc. and the Oswego County Department of Health and Social Services.
He pulled down a Lifetime Achievement award as part of the 2007 "Healthcare Heroes" awards competition.

"For over 25 years, Dr. Dennis Norfleet has worked to improve access to comprehensive, quality healthcare to all residents regardless of their ability to pay," said Ellen Holst, health division director at OCO. "He has developed innumerable policy procedures and protocols and has trained numerous physicians in the delivery of primary care."

Norfleet serves on the New York State Governors Advisory Board as an active contributor. Being selected to the board happens by being recognized as a well-respected leader in the medical community.

"Dr. Norfleet shies away from the limelight. However, I feel he has truly been a leader who prompts others to be at the forefront while he often plants the seed for change," Holst noted.
Board certified in internal medicine, Norfleet is an active member in the New York state and Oswego County medical societies and the American Medical Association.

"Dr. Norfleet is a living example of honesty and integrity," Holst commented.
She cited one example, when Norfleet served as a physician at Unity Acres, a residential facility for recovering alcoholics with multiple medical and social problems and chronic diseases.
"Though he received a small stipend for his services, he made sure that each and every man received a thorough and comprehensive physical exam and social assessment," Holst said.
