2006 Honorable Mention
Julie Chetney

Bishop's Commons is the first assisted living site in Oswego County. Julie Chetney, senior living coordinator for the agency, has been with it since its opening in 2000.

Previous to working at Bishop's Commons, Chetney worked for 10 years at St. Luke Health Systems. At Bishop's Commons, Chetney started various community programs. Her involvement with intergenerational, fundraising and community activities has been unyielding.

She has started several programs during her career. The Make a Wish program is something she started for senior residents. It mirrors the Make a Wish program for sick children. Some residents might wish for dinner with their families while others want to go horseback riding. She makes sure their wishes become reality.

She also started Make a Difference Day, a community wide and intergenerational program that brings together the young and old to help those less fortunate. Another of her programs lets children from Little Lukes daycare and local elementary schools visit residents. "The children brighten the lives of these folks more than anything else can," said Chetney. "I think that it's really critical for us to give back to out community on an ongoing basis."

Chetney is also a board member for Parents of Special Children and is on the Autistic Task Force.
